This is what everyone dreams to do. Men and women across all countries have aspirations of getting a career in a field doing that which they love to do. If you ask these people which particular field, then you will also learn that by landslide decision, almost everybody wants to get paid for using their skills in photography.

Photography careers

Careers in photography are actually abundant in today’s society but are not for people that do not posses some of the necessary requirements in order to be a real photographer.
To further explain, here are some of the requirements that you must meet in order to achieve a high chance of landing a career in photography:

You must have creativity – Creativity is one of the most necessary skills in the world of photography. It is an acquired skill or talent that is never taught to you, but you can continuously nourish through time. It shows in the work that you do and in the way that you perceive things. If you think and believe that you are creative, then you can definitely start making money with photography.

You must have and breathe photography and know everything about your equipment – If you want to have a photography career, you must know that your equipment is really your best friend. It is very important that you know how to tweak your items so that you can always guarantee a perfect shot. Most of the times, the settings of your equipment will depend on the photography career that you choose.

Love the light – If you really want to pursue photography careers, then you must be able to learn and grasp the concept of light. Most of the time, several different pieces of equipment will catch the very same image at the same quality, but the amount of light is the one that makes a picture stand out from the rest.

Learn post processing – After taking that nice shot, it is very important to know how to produce it on paper. Some pictures look good on a camera but widen or gain noise when printed. You have to learn that a career in photography does not end only in the shooting, but extends as far as printing your final product. Learn some of the major pieces of image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop in order to achieve the perfect image that you are eyeing for.

Now that you have learned some of the criteria that need to be met in order to enter the world of photography, the next thing to learn is how you will get paid for photographs you have taken.
This question has led many dreaming photographers into giving up their passion. Most of them have failed to receive compensation for their works and have begun down a different career path in order to survive. The ugly truth is: most of the time your passion will not really be the answer to your financial needs.
But fear not! There is a way to bend that truth. While there are no fail proof plans that will get you rich while pursuing a career in photography, there are some alternatives. In order to make money with photography, you need to figure out the type of photography you most enjoy doing.
It does sound surreal, but it is the truth. Photography is not just about a camera, a photographer and a model inside a studio taking pictures. There are many different types of photography careers that you can choose from. To save you some time from searching, here is a list of some of the most in demand careers in photography:

Photo Journalist – This type of photographer has the highest demand. Also, Photo Journalists come in many different varieties. A photo journalist may use their skills in photography to catch the latest news, or to show the latest trends in fashion. They make the most money as well since their rate may depend on which industry they are working for and also on what location they are being asked to do shooting on. The more dangerous the situation is, the higher the pay.

Restaurant Photographer / Food Photographer – Photography careers seekers often overlook at this as an option. A photographer in this line of business also earns more because of their expertise of bringing out the best in the products they shoot. Do you remember why you bought that spaghetti you are eating right now? Yes. It was because they looked good really good in the pictures.

Pet Photographer – Animal lovers are sure to be bound by this type of photography. It is a specialized art that deals with your most common household best friends such as dogs and cats. They have the spell to make your kitten look very cute while sleeping.

Portrait Photographer – The oldest, and the most traditional of all photography careers, it involves all the basic set up. The camera, the model and the photographer. They also work on family portraits that are sent during the holidays inside greeting cards. This line of work is one that needs patience and determination. It is because since it is the oldest, young people also consider this as the least exciting of them all.

Nature Photographer – One of the most exciting, it lets you capture the beauty of nature. Asides from creativity, you need the perfect timing in order to produce wonderful shots for nature. Because some of the most alluring photos that sells thousands of dollars are taken at the break of dawn, or at the midst of the sunset.

It is true that photography careers are abundant. What you just need to do in order to break in and make money with it are just two things: First, you have to know if you have what it takes, and secondly, you have to know all of your options. Once you have mastered these two things then you can simply enjoy photography and get paid while doing it.

The job title “Pet photographer” is relatively new in the world of photography, but nevertheless is one of the most sought after of all the types of photography. Pets secure their place in our families, homes and hearts. As such, most families love to have their pets photographed because they feel that they are a member of the family.
If you decide to start photographing pets, it’s important to remember that pets, unlike their human counterparts, typically will not understand your commands, let alone pose for you. Being a pet photographer takes patience and a love for animals. You need always remember that natural light is your friend, as a flash of light will often scare your subject and can potentially damage their eyes. Don’t be afraid to shoot outside, but if you must be inside, try to get shots by the window.

A pet photographer must capture their essence!

Pets have an essence which can be captured by the pet photographer, but you need to have a keen eye and a quick reflex. Keep alert and focus on the animal’s eyes to really get that desirable shot. Don’t be afraid to fill your entire lens with the pet’s face and get an ultra closeup. This technique can produce some pretty incredible images.
While some pets are trained enough that you can get them close-by with commands, others will make you work for the shot. Realize that you need to go to them often times, but you must learn to creep slowly and deliberately in order to allow the pet to reach a level of comfort which inhibits wonderful photos. Another great photography idea for Pet Photographers is lowering yourself to the pet’s level and get some great POV shots of the furry friend.

Action-shots are a pet photographer's best friend!

All animals have a personality, your job as a pet photographer is to capture the personality of the pet. If they are rambunctious and playful, get them in the act! Get them to rough house or play tug of war. If they are lazy and sleepy, try and capture a shot of them yawning or stretching.. Even asleep! Action shots are great! Bring along a whistle when you go to a photography session with a pet, as a quick, sharp blow of a whistle will typically cause the animal to posture up momentarily- allowing for great photographs.
Don’t be afraid to try different angles and shooting techniques. Black and white is great with pets. Animals are the perfect subject for any pet photographer. Of all the types of photography, I can say from experience that photographing animals is the most enjoyable and rewarding.

If you’re reading this article, you probably are an avid photographer. When you first started snapping pictures at a young age, you almost certainly did not think you’d end up in a position where you would eventually make a living by taking pictures. Even more so, you definitely did not give though to which types of photography jobs would pay the best! Luckily for you, there are a plethora of different photography jobs for you to earn an income with. Let’s talk about some!

Pet Photographer

Do you love animals? Don’t mind getting big paws on you and the occasional slobbery, dog-kiss? If so, then maybe this is just the type of photography job you were looking for! A pet often times becomes a part of the family. Most families enjoy having a nice group picture taken at some point, and just would not feel right leaving out their furry friends. This is where you come in! Those who choose this line of photography will be required to set the pet in a pose and shoot the picture. Sounds easy, right? Well.. Sometimes. You may encounter a difficult pet at times, but for every difficult pet you need to deal with, you will have a handful of well behaved pets who make your life much easier. Pet photographers can make a very decent living since there are so few photographers who specialize primarily in the photographing of animals. This is where you come in and sweep the market!

Newborn Photographer

Aren’t babies so cute! Well, their parents think so too. That’s why they would hire someone for their newborn photography. When the baby is first brought home from the hospital, many families opt to have their newborn’s photo taken. Sure, they could go down to the mall and get a picture taken back to back with their baby in the James Bond pose, or they could go to a professional. That’s your queue. Newborns are very easy to photograph, because let’s be honest here- Not much is expected of them as a subject. Sleep, lay there, close your eyes! Marvelous! See how easy it is? Newborn photography is a wonderful field of photography to get into and again, it is an unsaturated market. You can make a great living for yourself because there are not many other photographers in this field. This is one of the more lucrative photography jobs around.

Fashion Photographer

Want to be a part of the super-elite? Travel to the worlds most exotic locations and take pictures of some of the most beautiful people on Earth? Well then maybe fashion photography is for you. Fashion photography is a very versitle position, because not only can you get hired to shoot models, but also to photograph products like clothing and accessories. Of all the types of photography jobs, fashion photography is by far the most well-paid of all types of photography fields. Not only the increase in pay, but also the increase in quality of life.

In close, if you are looking for photography careers, the choice truly is up to you. There are plenty of photography jobs out there, you just need to make the decision and follow your dreams!

And while an upgrade to the most expensive equipment is entirely unnecessary to get you started on your way to a career in photography, just a simple 30-second adjustment to your camera is not the end of what you can achieve. Pens, flashlights and other household items are cheap and easy ways to create some amazing light painting photos. With your creativity and the techniques detailed in this eBook, you will be able to use your computer scanner or a simple piece of household cleaning equipment as tools to innovate some stunning special effects shots.

I began my search in to photography careers many years ago, and let me say this from the get-go- I am not a wealthy photographer by any means! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t struggle financially, but can tell you this: Earning a living doing something you love every day is absolutely priceless. For me, a career in photography was a dream come true.

Make money with photography

As I worked my way up the ranks, I realized that not only was I making money doing something I absolutely enjoy- but I’m also getting better at my craft as each day passes. For a photographer, every single day you may learn something new. For me, this is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Photography jobs are surprisingly easy to come by if you stay active in your searches. It may take some time, but don’t be afraid to be persistent! Depending on which of the types of photography you chose to work in (pet photography, newborn photography, and more!), you may need to go into a studio and talk to the owner directly. This business is largely word-of-mouth, so go out there and get your name around! When you aren’t busy taking pictures for your portfolio, you should be out there networking with people and making connections. It’s these connections you make early on in your photography careers that help land you lucrative photography jobs. Don’t be nervous! Make some cold-calls, as early on, they are your best friend when it comes to generating potential leads. Go after the people you really want to work for. They’ll be work the extra effort!

Photography careers are great for those interested in artistic photography, as you often get the opportunity to work with many different models. Portrait photography is another genre which is largely popular in art circles. You can expect to be compensated very well if you end up working for a studio doing portraits, head shots, etc.

Setting goals for yourself and laying out a plan of action when it comes to marketing is very important for people beginning their careers in photography. Set your goals high. With some persistence, you will be pleasantly surprised how quickly your photography business has taken off. While you don;t want to cut yourself off to potential clients, you also should try and carve out a niche for yourself in a specialized type of photography in order to make a name for yourself.

No matter which path you choose, careers in photography are sure to be exceptionally gratifying if taking pictures makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. Follow your passion!
